Homemade Poultry Seasoning is the perfect blend of spices to add to any chicken or turkey dish or to your favorites soups or stuffing recipes!
What is Poultry Seasoning
You may be wondering what’s in poultry seasoning?! Poultry Seasoning is simply a seasoning blend often used in turkey and stuffing recipes. I always add a little spoonful to my broth or chicken soups to add that savory flavor we associate with turkey dinner. Hints of sage and rosemary make dishes taste so homey.
You can find it in the spice aisle at the grocery store (or online) but you can also quickly and easily make your own at home.
You very likely have all of these ingredients on hand to easily make your own DIY poultry seasoning blend. Most of the spices you’ll likely have already blended except the rosemary. I just put it in my coffee grinder or magic bullet to grind a little bit.
Once mixed, this will keep in the cupboard for up to 6 months in an airtight container or spice jar and this is the perfect substitute for poultry seasoning from the store. This is a small recipe making only 3 tablespoons but it can easily be doubled or tripled if you’d like more.
It’s great added into any recipe using chicken including casseroles, dumplings. When I am roasting a turkey (or chicken), I also rub the outside of the bird with olive oil and then do a rub of poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. It makes the most crispy savory skin and tastes wonderful!

Very nice recipe chef . Thank you for your effort
Easy, quick and great.
Thank you! Always wanted to know what was in poultry seasoning. I also add about 1/4 tsp. to hamburger meat when making Shepherds Pie.
I made this poultry seasoning when I needed it for your website’s turkey pot pie recipe. It was awesome! Thank you!
This tasted better than store bought. Used it to season a turkey meatloaf my husband loved it.
Great
LOVE THIS STUFF!!
McCormick ‘s Poultry Seasoning is my absolute favorite and I used it all up (lots of homemade chicken noodle/rice soup). I went to the store and there was none there. Opted for Spice Islands version and it is NOT the same. Your ingredients match EXACTLY what’s in McCormick’s version. I didn’t have the ground version of 3 of the herbs so I measured all the ingredients into my NuWave Twister (knockoff of the original Magic Bullet) and gave it a good grind. Got the same texture and aroma as my beloved McCormick’s. Put it in a glass spice jar that I had saved and good to go now.
I used all your ingredients and measurements for this spice blend, except instead of ground herbs I used rubbed sage, thyme and marjoram leaves and crushed rosemary, and it’s WONDERFUL. You have to really pat the ingredients down to get a good measure, the sage especially, but it stains the food a lot less than ground sage. I use a tablespoon of this and a tablespoon of parsley flakes instead of the fresh/dried combo in your easy stuffing recipe and it’s like crack in food form.
Being a health nut and RN, I no longer feed my family gluten, dairy eggs soy or corn , but love your recipes as I can alter them using cassava flour, or flax eggs, and potato flakes for breading….thank you for sharing….making the poultry seasoning tonight with the herbs I have grown and ground…..love it!
I forgot to add, I loved your homemade poultry seasoning Holly (used it for Canadian Thanksgiving in October) but do admit I left out the nutmeg as I didn’t have any on hand.
Holly, I’ve loved every one of your recipes! Thank you for being so generous in sharing them with us.
