A Strawberry Banana Smoothie is the perfect breakfast recipe!
With just a handful of ingredients, a couple of minutes, and a whirr in the blender, you’ve got yourself a delicious meal on the go!
To make this smoothie even quicker, store the ingredients in individual servings in the freezer along with your favorite add-ins for a quick snack on the go!
Any number of great things can be put into a smoothie from fresh fruit, to juice or even dairy-free milk. Change the variations to make a creation that is not only good for you but tasty too (my kids used to consider them dessert)!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients
The best thing about a smoothie is that it’s really easy to make your own!
- Strawberries: I try to use frozen strawberries for a nice thick smoothie. Other types of berries can be added in place.
- Banana: Bananas add a natural sweetness, I prefer frozen bananas if I have them on hand. As bananas ripen, keep a couple in the freezer for the thickest smoothies.
- Milk: Cow’s milk, almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk … the sky’s the limit!
- Yogurt: Greek yogurt or regular work. If you’re using plain Greek yogurt, add a bit of honey or sweetener.
- Ice: If the fruit is not frozen, add some ice to give it a frosty chill.
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
So, easy, the kids can do it, that’s how! This fruit smoothie recipe starts off with fresh or frozen strawberries and bananas. Use frozen banana if you have it for a thicker smoothie.
Add the ingredients to a blender and give it a whirr adding more liquid as needed.
Variations
Change up this classic strawberry banana smoothie recipe with the following variations.
- Add orange juice in place of milk.
- For a green smoothie, add in a handful of greens and blend with the liquid until smooth before adding the fruit. Try kale or spinach.
- Try adding different fruit like blueberries, or pineapple.
- Boost the nutrition with flax seeds, protein powder, or chia seeds.
The Best Blenders for Smoothies
There is no “wrong” blender for smoothies. You’ll want a blender that has a fairly strong motor and can easily break down ice or frozen fruit. If you make a lot of smoothies or use a blender, it might be worth splurging on a high speed blender (I love this one). I also love the magic bullet for an easy on the go breakfast!

Quick and easy. It taste great.
I add two scoops of pea/quinoa protein powder to my smoothies. It does not affect the taste but I know I’m starting my day with some protein. It makes enough for two days and I store the second one in a mason jar in the fridge.
How many ounces does one serving hold? I recently purchased the Ninja Fit Single-Serve Blender with Two 16oz Cups – QB3001SS, so I was wondering if it’ll fit or if I have to make it in a bigger blender and split it into the two cups.
This recipe makes approximately 2½-3 cups, depending on your fruit so I don’t think it’ll fit into a 16oz blender. You can either make it in a bigger blender or for a single serving you can cut the recipe in half.
Will this recipe for in the single cup magic bullet mini? Or is it for a full size blender?
Hi Danielle, this recipe is for 2 servings so it may not quite fit in a single serve blender. I would half the recipe in a single serve blender. I hope this helps!
haven’t tried it yet but I’m looking forward to making it tomorrow morning. I have a question ……how
many servings does this make? My blender is very much like the Ninja kind in size. Are your recipes based on a full size blender? ………or do I need to cut the recipe in half since I have the smaller type of blender.
It’ll make approximately 2½-3 cups, depending on your fruit. Enjoy Elaine!
Thanks will try
I loved this smoothie so much!!! When I did it, I din’t add any chia seeds, but I did add double the banana. Thank you for this wonderful smoothie. The only thing is I would like to try it with spinach or kale. Which one would be best do you think and how much of it?
You’re welcome! A handful of either would work in this recipe. Spinach may be a bit milder to try at first. Enjoy Alyssa!
this is the best 10 out of 10 stars
This looks delicious
I read this and wanted it. NOW! I didn’t have any yogurt. I added more banana to make up for it. I had farm fresh strawberries. I added frozen Maine blueberries for “ice”. Deeeelishus!!
